Rick’s Wedding

January 28, 2009 at 11:13 pm · Filed under Experiences

My friend Rick had a wedding two days after New Years this year.  The wedding took place in Houston which was a welcome change compared to the chilly Midwest weather.  Hopping on a plane the day after staying up late bringing in the new year, well, that wasn’t so welcome.

That night, a small group of us went to dinner while the wedding party did their thang.  We met up with everybody later where the rehersal dinner was and ended up heading over to Rick and Micah’s house.  The drive there was the first time I’d really realized just how ridiculously spread out Houston is.  Our hotel was south of Houston and Rick, although north of us, still lives south of the loop.  Even though we stayed south of Houston, it was almost a 40 minute car ride.  That’s just insane.  I’m sure the city has some fine spots but, from what I saw, I can’t say I’m a fan.  The long drive was totally worth it, though, to walk in and see Andy wearing this shirt:

The wedding itself didn’t start until pretty late in the day so we took advantage of seeing some of the sights around Houston.  Unfortunately, the sheer size of the city limited our excursion to the nearby NASA headquarters.  I had been to the headquarters a LONG time ago with family, and it was funny to me how familiar the area was after so many years.  We ducked into one of the exhibition rooms and joined a group during their tour.

I tell you what, space ships are huge!

The wedding itself was pretty good, I must say.  I’ve decided that my wedding will be pretty quick and to the point.  There won’t be multiple flowery songs, nor will there be a unity candle where you light a candle and just stand there for the remainer of the song just staring at each other.  Rick and Micah did it right.  Unfortuntately, the Deacon mispronounced their last name when announcing the couple at the end of the ceremony.  He got it on the third try, though!

The reception was in a room by the church and was centered around everyone having a good time.  There were dance-offs, mazel tovs (don’t ask), and all kinds of random things throughout the night.  At the end of the night, during “Shout”, the group picked up the bride and groom while everyone danced around.

Shout!

It was a group couple of days to get together with friends and joke around constantly.

roar!

And a great day for Rick and Micah.
